The Flipside

This is the flipside of hyper-fundamentalism: the seeker-friendly mega-church movement which reduces God to an emotional drug, a prepackaged theatrical production, a rock band, and cultural icons. Big business.

I don't begrudge anyone worshipping God in spirit and in truth in whatever manner His Spirit compels them, but I fear many are manipulated into an emotional experience masked as "worship" by this very format. Just like with fundamentalism, the focus seems to be on people rather than on Christ, just in a slightly different manner.

It's a great satire. Trust me. I've been in more of these churches than I can count, and many more that want to be just like them. Sadly, the church that made the video follows this exact format, so I'm not entirely sure what point they were trying to make.

This is a bit off of the general theme of my writing here, but I thought it might be of interest to some.

  2. My boyfriend and I watched and boy, did we relate. Sometimes I just want to give up on church but there is no perfection. Have to remember that.

  3. That's true. No perfect people equals no perfect fellowship of people.

It's disheartening to see so many Christians swinging to formulaic worship and living in each extreme, fundamentalist and seeker-friendly. All we can do is simply follow Christ wherever we are and whomever we're with.
